Health Benefits
Offering health insurance in this country is not mandatory, but providing these additional health benefits can greatly enhance the healthcare experience for employees. Remote offers comprehensive health benefits in Portugal, through our Local Basic, Standard, and Premium plans. When onboarding a new hire in Portugal, different health benefits plans are available which include in-network and out-of-network coverage for various medical services, emergency services, dental care, prostheses and orthoses (including vision insurance), and coverage for serious illnesses. The Local Basic plan covers essential health services with co-payment options, including inpatient and outpatient care, medical appointments, emergency services, and physiotherapy. The Local Standard plan provides similar benefits with additional coverage for prostheses and orthoses, including vision insurance. The Local Premium plan offers the highest level of coverage, including more extensive dental benefits, serious illness coverage, and a higher insured amount for comprehensive medical services. When health insurance benefits are offered, they must be provided equally to all employees in the respective country. - In-patient: €50,000 - 90% covered, 10% by client (€250 min, €500 max)
- Childbirth: €2,500 - 90% covered, 10% by client
- Out-patient: €2,000 - 90% covered, 10% by client
- Medical appointments: €18.50 paid by client
- Emergency medical appointments: €45 paid by client
- Exams: 10% min paid by client
- Physiotherapy: €10/session, up to €500
- Speech and kinesiotherapy: €10/session, up to 6 sessions
Out-of-Network Coverage
- In-patient: €50,000 - 50% covered, 50% by client
- Childbirth: €2,500 - 50% covered, 50% by client
- Out-patient: €2,000 - 50% covered, 50% by client
- Medical appointments: Max €35 reimbursed per appointment
- Emergency medical appointments: Max €45 reimbursed per appointment
- Physiotherapy: 35% covered, 65% by client, up to €500
- Speech and kinesiotherapy: 35% covered, 65% by client, up to 6 sessions
Dental
- In-Network Coverage: €500 - 80% covered, 20% by client; €10 per visit
- Out-of-Network Coverage: €500 - 50% covered, 50% by client
Grace Periods
According to Remote’s policy, no grace periods will be applied to employees (except serious illness).The employee’s family unit may also be exempt as long as it is added on the employee’s starting date.

- Outpatient assistance: 90 days
- Dental: 90 days

You can support your team members by directly covering their dependents. Note that the final cost for family coverage may vary based on the number of dependents an employee adds.

Medicines

- Covers: Reimbursement of expenses incurred for medications, registered with INFARMED or similar entities, provided they are prescribed by a doctor.
Serious Illness Coverage
- Insured Amount: €1,000,000
- Cancer Treatment:
- Includes in-situ cancer and pre-cancerous conditions
- Excludes tumours related to HIV, skin cancer except malignant melanoma, and papillary bladder cancer
- Neurosurgery:
- Surgical intervention on the skull or other intracranial structures
- Treatment of benign tumours located in the spinal cord
- Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery: Myocardial revascularization involving at least two coronary arteries
- Heart Valve Replacement: Replacement of a heart valve (valve repair is excluded)
- Organ Transplantation:
- Transplantation of organs from a living donor
- Transplantation of organs from a deceased donor, including the heart
