Employment Termination in Lebanon

Termination process

Employers can dismiss workers at will and without any prior notice due to force majeure (unfavourable circumstances beyond the employer’s control) or an act of serious misconduct, such as theft, fraud, indiscipline, or a felony conviction.

Notice period

Notice periods are determined by the employee’s tenure, as shown below:

  • Less than 3 years: one month
  • Six years to 12 years of employment: three months notice
  • More than 12 years: four months

An employer is required to pay wages in lieu of notice if the employee isn’t notified accordingly as required.

Severance pay

Severance payments range from two to 12 months pay, depending on the nature of an employee’s work, age, tenure, and the level of misconduct for which the staff was dismissed.

Probation periods

Three months, during which employees are not covered by provisions for sickness benefits, etc.
